Physiotherapy is a health care profession which involves evaluation through the administration of physical test to determine the presence and/or extent of an injury prior to the use of physical modalities for preventive and therapeutic purposes. Physiotherapy is equally concerned with curative and rehabilitative services by the use of physical agents and modalities.
NSP shares in the principles of the WCPT that every individual is entitled to the highest possible standard of culturally appropriate health care provided in an atmosphere for trust and respect for human dignity and determined by sound clinical reasoning and scientific evidence.
Administrator’s message

The Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) was founded in 1959 by Dr. T. A. Oshin and Mr. Christopher A. Ajao, along with some other foundation members at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. NSP is the professional body that cares for the practice of physiotherapy profession and its practitioners & physiotherapists practicing in Nigeria. NSP also ensures the quality and standard of physiotherapy practice in Nigeria. All trained and qualified physiotherapists are mandated to belong to the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP). NSP is duly and properly recognized by the Federal Government of Nigeria and it is also a member of professional physiotherapy bodies in the world, that is, the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT).
NSP shares in the principles of the WCPT that every individual is entitled to the highest possible standard of culturally appropriate health care provided in an atmosphere fir trust and respect for human dignity and undermined by sound clinical reasoning and scientific evidence.
NSP at the national level comprises of 36 state chapters and in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter and represents a total of 493 registered and licensed physiotherapists according to the December 2004 Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria (MRTBN) register. MRTBN is the professional regulatory body set up by decree 38 of 1988 to ensure that practitioners are qualified and registered, modern equipments/modalities are used; a one-year compulsory internship are done by graduates of physiotherapy and that physiotherapists who are trained abroad meet the required standard of practice in Nigeria among other duties.
The service and experience of registered physiotherapists are employed in various federal government hospitals, medical centers, general hospitals and health centers sport complex clinics, industrial medical centers, training institutions (i.e. universities), extended care facility centers, private clinics and home environments all overt the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
There are various programmes and projects in which the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy undertakes to promote the physiotherapy profession and contribute to the national health policies development.
